Protection and Restoration
One of the main targets of the foundation UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch is to contribute to the protection and restoration of the outstanding universal value of the World Heritage site and the surrounding region. The richness of the alpine and subalpine habitats with their diversity of animal and plant species is part of this natural heritage.
Species and habitats worth to be particularly protected by the Management Center have been defined in close cooperation with local experts. The community action called «World Heritage Gmeiwärch» aims at implementing the defined protection and restoration measures during work weeks with school classes and civil service groups or with the help of volunteers.
